Keya Wakapala Waicageyapi is a powerfully unique model development. The Lakota Nation is faced with the challenge of maintaining and strengthening land tenure, culture, health, and nationhood while providing creative and innovative opportunities for their people. This is not an easy task given the impacts of colonial history. However, as resilient people, we are in the process of creating a community like no other; a truly Lakota contemporary resilient community that is an expression of our deepest held values and visions. Our success will be shred not only by our own Lakota people, but by other Native nations and small communities facing similar struggles. Each success offers renewed hope for the future. As Lakota people we understand that healthy people do not stand alone, but as part of interconnected families and communities.
We also understand that in order to thrive, Keya Wakpala Waicageyapi cannot stand alone, but will be born of the passion, talents, dedication, and interconnectedness of many. The core partners in the development of Keya Wakpala Waicageyapi are the stakeholders themselves - the Sicangu Lakota people. The Stakeholders are interested community members and program representatives who are determined to see the success of Keya Wakpala Waicageyapi. They are the heart, soul and reason for the development itself, providing vision, skills, and guidance.
An Executive Committee, formed to provide the framework and practical work needed to allow the peoples' vision tocome into being, is made up of people with particular skills, experience and responsibilities that can contribute to the on-the-ground success of the community. This includes spiritual leaders, REDCO representatives, infrastructure and policy specialists, and more.
