Keya Wakpala Waicageyapi - The Master Plan
The Lakota people have a strong history of change and adaptation. The master green development plan is intended to draw upon that cultural heritage as strength, while laying out a bold, structured framework where successful policies, programs and projects can spring to life, creating a stable and vibrant community. Keya Wakpala Waicageyapi will be known as a place that maintains and enhances the spirit of the Nation it embodies while constantly improving the capacity of the site to provide for its inhabitants - plant, animal and human.
The purpose of the master document is to plan and build a community that is a safe place for all Lakota people and their neighbors who seek a unique community encouraging resilience, health, education, and helpfulness while renewing a culturally meaningful way of life.
The mission is to empower our people to dream big and accomplish success through hard work while inspiring the hearts and minds of committed partners, supporters, and experts to build a groundbreaking and unique culturally based resilient community.
The process will seek the vision for what this community will look like and how people might live there, we started by engaging our own local citizens in a dialogue about who we are as Lakota people, what our values are, and what we seek to build together based on that common base of identity, values and goals. From this starting point, we will ask further questions about what is possible and achievable in this dream of a better life, while tempering it with an awareness of current limitations and levels of resources.
