ROSEBUD – Dineh Lakota Black Horse, a junior at Todd County High School, has been chosen to represent South Dakota on the 2017 Central Conference Football Team in Queensland, Australia.
Dineh has played defensive tackle and offensive line on the TCHS football team for the past 3 years, according to a press release. He was selected as Defensive Play of the Game twice during the 2016 season.
He is one of only two football players from South Dakota invited to participate. Athletes will complete for the team championship in their sport, as well as individual awards. Each participant chosen to compete in this international tournament is responsible for their own fund raising. Dineh and his family are accepting donations to pay for this 9-day trip. The athletes chosen to travel to Australia will depart on Sunday, June 25, 2017.
In a letter to potential sponsors, Dineh wrote “I am honored to be an ambassador of not only my community and state, but also our country. I will be participating in this international event on the Central Conference Football Team during the summer of 2017. I am looking for sponsors to make donations towards the cost of competing down under. A major source of funds comes through voluntary contributions of family, friends and business sponsors. Your sponsorship will be a very important part of fundraising for me and my team.”
Donors can also buy Down Under t-shirts to support this young man. With every t-shirt you buy, you also get a thank you ticket which is your chance to win an all-expense paid trip for 2 people to attend the sports competitions in Australia. You will also have a chance a 5-day Cruise for 2 when you buy a t-shirt. The deadline for donations is June 2, 2017.
“It will be really special to visit a different country,” Dineh said. But I also feel this is an important step for me because I want to be a role model for my younger siblings and cousins, to show them that if you work hard at something, good things can happen. I’m also hoping that my participation might help me win a college football scholarship in the future.”
